Q: Do I need to get my furnace and air conditioner cleaned every year?
A: Yes. At Mauder Heating and Air Conditioning we do this maintenance for a number of reasons. Your equipment will operate more efficiently – getting more heat and cooling for your dollar. Most importantly,
the cleaning also includes a thorough safety check of the entire unit for cracked or defective/damaged parts. This annual maintenance will assure your equipment is operating at peak efficiency. An annual cleaning is also recommended by all manufactures, as well as the utility companies (Columbus Gas and Toledo Edison).

Q: If I go away for a few days or longer during the winter, what temperature should I set my thermostat?
A: We recommend 55 degrees. It's low enough to save energy and money, but warm enough to protect your pipes and vital parts of your system.

Q: How often should I change my filter?
A: You should check and change the filter as needed. Believe it or not, a filter actually becomes more efficient as it gets dirtier but only up to a point. After peak efficiency is reached, the efficiency begins to drop. Make sure to inspect the filter and use your own judgment. Don't let the filter get “clogged” this can cut the efficiency of the unit and/or cause damage.

Q: Should I cover my outdoor air conditioning unit during the cold months?
A: The unit is manufactured to handle cold conditions but the top could be covered to prevent
leaves and ice from penetrating the top of the unit. Any cover, however must be removed before
using the unit in the Spring.

Q: My thermostat is equipped with a 2 position setting for the fan “automatic” & “on”. Where should I set it?
A: The two positions are usually used in conjunction with a central air cleaning system. The normal setting is on “automatic” and the fan's cycle will be controlled by the temperature in the room. However, if your home is equipped with an air cleaner (media or electronic) or you wish to keep a continuous flow of air, switch the setting to “on”. Remember, central air cleaning devices only work when the furnace is circulating air. If you wish to get the most from your air cleaner, you should keep the setting to “on”.
